Saturday 18/05/02:
What a day!
Andy had an exam
in the morning, so we decided to go extreme in the afternoon
to help him relax.
The wind was good,
perfect for buggying with the little 3-metre kites,
though a 4-metre would have been ideal!
Everyone was getting
nice air (jumps), but as ever the highlights were off-camera.
To try and rectify this we set up the Firebee6.5 even
though it seemed like madness, and improvised some different
things to brace against ready to jump.
By the end of the
afternoon we'd cracked it - two people lying on their
backs with their feet against the mountainboard. the
jumpee could then lie on the other side, plant his feet
on the board and sweep the kite for maximum pull.
The first attempt
using this technique produced a 6-foot air that carried
Jim twenty feet downwind. Again no photo. On the second
attempt, everyone held their breath as Jim worked the
kite, trying to build up some power. Finally, the wind
sent a perfectly timed gust, the lines whistled with
tension, and Jim felt the biggest jump ever building
up.
Then the lines snapped
